How Can the Chinese Conception chart predict the sex of your baby?

When you get pregnant, you might be impatient and curious to know the sex of the baby you are expecting. Many people enjoy looking at a Chinese Conception Chart also called a Chinese pregnancy calendar to find out whether they are going to get pregnanct with a boy or a girl. The pregnancy calendar is based on the myth that it was discovered in an ancient tomb, has been buried for over a 1000 years and is over 97 per cent accurate.

However, these claims are not entirely correct. Many people have used it and found that the results were accurate for one child and not for the other. With the probability of being right at 50 per cent of the time, it will only be right every other time you use it.

Using the calendar is simple. All you need to know is the mother’s age when she conceived and the month in which the baby was conceived. Then run your finger across the chart, and where these two points coincide and you have your prediction from the Chinese pregnancy calendar.

Take the Chinese pregnancy calendar with a grain of salt and just take it as light entertainment. By no means should you start painting the nursery walls or finalizing names based on this calendar as many people have opposite results

    Even Ultrasound Technicians Make Mistakes

When a technologically advanced system like the ultrasound can make mistakes of determining the sex of the child, an ancient chart should not expect to be more accurate. Some people may take it too seriously by trying extra hard for a baby in a particular month if they desperately want a girl or a boy.

For example, according to the Chinese pregnancy calendar at one online site, if you are 21, apart from January, there is no other time of the year that you can have a boy. This is highly unlikely as even though there are more women than men in this world, such an 11 out of 12 probability for a girl is fictitious by all accounts

Another tell-tale sign that the Chinese pregnancy calendar is not based on facts is that different websites have different charts! If you are 25 and conceived in March, website A will predict you’re having a boy whereas website B will put its bets on a girl.

Medical science has proven that the sex of the child is determined by the sperm of the father and no chart or Chinese pregnancy calendar can alter that. So if you want a definitive prediction of the sex of your baby, wait until you are far enough along in your pregnancy, an ultrasound or sonargram will be able to give you a better result. Most of all, just concentrate on the happy occasion of welcoming a healthy and happy new addition to your family.

    Selection of Maternity Swimwear

Swimming is a fabulous way to stay fit and healthy and a great way to exercise while pregnant. It is very relaxing, and a great way to show off your nice baby bump.

Ideally a maternity bathing suit must have support in 3 key areas – your bust, hips and tummy.

For bust support, if you are smaller, you may be able to pull off a halter style, which tend to be very flattering. If you are graciously endowed, you should tend to lean towards the wider strap tanks and empire waist, which adds more support. Try to find adjustable straps so you can increase the length as you need it.

When it comes to showing off your baby bump, you must decide whta is comfortable for you. Make sure that your suit is not to tight and has enough room for you to grow into. Through your pregnancy, your hips will expand,  so make sure you buy a maternity swimsuit which has lycra or is adjustable.

Motherhood Maternity: Keyhole Detail Maternity Tankini Swimsuit

This is a good example of a tankini as opposed to a one piece maternity swimsuit. It has spandex in it so will have enough stretch.

Prego Maternity Halter Baby Doll Swimsuit

Halter baby doll suit w/center loop and cups, with built in bra. This will be great for those who are a bit more body conscious.

Made in USA. Over the belly bottoms

    880% nylon/20% Lycra. Available in sizes S-3X
Hand-wash cold, line dry, don’t bleach.
“I know we have lots of hot, body-conscious swimsuits, which is great, but sometimes, you want a wee bit more coverage. One of my fave pregnancy swimsuits was almost a minidress, which is why I fell in love with this halter-topped, built-in-bra tankini. The hem falls low enough to feel flirty but to hide any butt bulges. Hey, they happen! Adjust the top by tying the halter to suit your needs. But what I know those of you who like coverage will go ga-ga for is the belly coverage the bottom gives you. Sure, theyre as big as granny pants, but that means that when you relax on the chaise lounge, no-one will see your belly and the road map of stretch marks and veins therein. Just remember the opposite of what I tell my potty-trained toddlers about how to put on their underwear — this time, the big part goes in the front! ;)

    Prego Maternity Swimsuit

Classic black one piece that crosses in the back with a textured pattern on the fabric. Flattering and supportive fit. Great for working out. 80% nylon, 20% lycra. Hand wash cold, line dry.

I purchased this swimsuit early in my pregnancy when I couldnt wear my normal suit any more. I looked all over for a swimsuit that I could still swim laps in. I wore this suit throughout my entire pregnancy and it worked great!

A Selection of Maternity Nursing Bras

Medela Comfort Maternity Nursing Bra – Black – Extra Large

Here are some of the testimonials from other mothers who bought this bra:

Does the job…with a little help

TThis bra has proven well worth the price. Ive used it really frequently during my maternity leave since its comfortable and easy to use for feedings.

This bra is just so comfy! Im large chested and it supports me fairly well, better than any other non-underwire bras I have. I even use it as a sleep bra sometimes.

I purchased this bra in black for my last trimester, along with a bravado bra, which came in at the same time. I have to say, while this one is more comfortable, I use the bravados breast pads with this bra every time I wear it, which is why I took away one star. One other thing about it is that the washing instructions are o the bra not on a tag, and its not the easiest thing to read. But thats peanuts. All in all, a good bra to use for the last trimester and beyond.

I bought many differnt types of nursing bras, but this is the only one that i wear every day. i have since bought a buncha and literally wear them every day. They are the most comfortable bra ever. I live in hawaii and it is humid and hot, but this bra is still the perfect tempurature. For those women who want a comfortable, breathable, everyday sporty bra, this is it.

Bravado Body Silk Seamless Maternity/Nursing Bra

Here are some testimonials about this nursing bra:

Bravados newest bra was designed to give you comfort unlike any youve experienced from a bra before – nursing or not. This molded foam cup bra offers a seamless silhouette, lovely shape, and great support. And because the foam cups are removable, you have the option of a thicker cup lining when you need it.

I recommend the bra as I searched long and hard for something better (I wanted seamless with a foam insert and good support) and couldnt find it. I think youd be hard pressed to find something better too. I only gave it 4 stars because I think it would be better to list my size as a Large and not a Medium (38C/D) and I think maybe they could have made the straps a bit wider for comfort.

Overall, this nursing bra is good for casual, everyday wear.

RRemovable, molded foam cups mean great versatility, and the ability to hide nipples and breast pads.
SSeamless and buttery-soft fabric result in a bra that is remarkably comfortable to wear, and virtually invisible under clothing.

I hate bras. They either flatten me down, are incredibly itchy or make my back ache. This one doesnt flatten and is so comfortable, I actually forget it is on.
The nursing functionality on this one isnt the best. The only thing holding the bra strap is a flimsy piece of elastic. But it is so wonderful to have something that doesnt make me want to scratch my skin off.

Kwik Klip For Easy Opening and Closing

In specially developed microfiber thats decorated with a pretty jaquard pattern, this underwire Anita nursing bra has seamless preformed cups with the patented KwikKlip system that allows easy opening. The width of the back increases in larger sizes.

I have worn this bra every single day since my son was born 4 months ago. It is the most comfortable bra I have ever owned!! I have washed it ALOT since its the only nursing bra I like enough to wear everyday, and its held up really well – I wash it by hand in the sink and it seems as new as the day I first put it on, in spite of washing it every few days. The clasps are super easy to use – easy to open and close with one hand (and in the dark, I might add!), which is really great when youre trying to get it open while juggling a hungry baby. I do think the cup sizes run small – I ordered one cup size larger than usual (F instead of DD), although I ordered the same band size I always wear. I cannot say enough good things about this bra!! It is a little expensive, but is absolutely worth every penny – Im just about to order a second one so that I wont have to wear the same one every day…

I love this bra. Im nursing my 6-month old son (and also nursed my first for 18 months) and this is by far the best nursing bra Ive found. Im a 38DD(E), so I need good support. I love the way this bra shapes and lifts like a standard bra, without being too bulky. The material is thin and lightweight and doesnt have a pattern that will show through clothing like some other nursing bras Ive used. Its pretty easy to open and close the clasps one handed, which can be essential with holding a wiggly, hungry baby. Great bra!

This bra is very comfortable. I like the wide straps, and it offers adequate support. I usually wear a B or C cup, depending on the bra, but with this bra the C cup was too.

As a mother breastfeeding her third child, I can honestly say this is the best nursing bra I have found. I ordered the black bra, and its attractive, very supportive, and truly comfortable. The straps are quite wide and soft, alleviating much of the pressure on my shoulders. I wear a 34 H, and I feel confident and well supported in this bra, which is a true first with a nursing bra. Also, the cup clasps are easy to use, yet very secure. As with all bras, spending more upfront saves money in the long run. I would recommend doing a Google search for Anitas sizing charts before you order. The band size on this bra runs large, so I ordered one size smaller than I would normally wear and got a perfect fit. Happy nursing!

Ive had this bra now for about a month and so far its working out well. Seems to be good quality and as comfortable as youll probably get at this point. My only complaint is that they seem to run on the small side–Id say about 2 sizes too small. If you can find a store that sells these bras, Id highly recommend trying them on. Then ordering through Amazon since its so much cheaper. I ended up having to pay almost $30 for ground shipping through FedEx to send back the 2 that I originally bought.

I have not needed a nursing bra for 9 years but love this style so much I keep purchasing them. Very comfortable and its quite convenient that the straps adjust in the front.

This is a good bra. Im a DD, and it actually gives decent support. Its comfortable and durable. The only gripe I might have is that I wish the shoulder straps were a little wider. Other than that, its great!

    Bravado Seamless Nursing Bra

Bravado! Style 1401. Molded soft cup bra. Stretch nylon blend. Easy-to-reach and open nursing snap down clips. Wide underband to support busts. Satin trim along bustline. Foam-lined cups for modesty. Convenient front-adjustable straps. 4 column, 3 row hook and eye back closure. Specifically designed for nursing mothers.

First time Mom breastfeeding…tried nursing bras locally…quality was lacking compared to what the Bravado seamless nursing bra has to offer…even the local Motherhood Maternity shop didnt have the same quality bra…highly recommended…kudos to my Mom for this find…Michelle in El Paso,Texas

After much research and reading others reviews, I purchased this bra and used sizing recs from the bravado website. It is too small, and the removable cups are horrible! Not to mention the interior strap shows and isnt concealed from the bra itself (at least not on me). Why are nursing bras such a complicated issue!? I am returning right away.

I have a 3 week old and bought this bra today–absolutely love it! Very supportive and functional. Im much more comfortable moving around and feel very supported. Its worth the extra money for the quality and fit of this bra. Im a 36D and the large fits very well. Highly recommended.

Early on in pregnancy I was in need of a larger bra, but couldnt find any in the stores that fit properly. I went for a “certified” fitting at a hospital womens boutique and the fitter recommended the Bravado. Pre-pregnancy I was a 34C, but the fitter said Im now a 34F. She said as of that moment in time (I was about 18 weeks at the time) I would fit into a medium with this bra, but down the road might need a large. The medium felt just a tad too small and the large a tad too big, but the large was comfier if I attached the tightest hooks. I didnt buy in the boutique because of the cost. Im really pleased with the bra–love the lack of an underwire and that it still gives me shape and doesnt make me look like Im wearing a sports bra–i.e. no uniboob. The only reason I give it a 4-star rating is because the color is not what I expected. It looks much lighter in the photo. Its still fine for me, just darker than I thought itd be. I would handwash to ensure longevity.

Bizarre contraception myths of British women

There was a news article today reporting on a poll for pharma company Bayer Schering Pharma, that says that British women have strange beliefs with regards to contraception. They believe that bread, chicken skin and cling film can be used as reliable contraceptives.

The poll also found that there were some mistaken ideas about the contraceptive pill.

Half of those surveyed wrongly thought that taking the pill long term could cause infertility, and 10 per cent said that it would always take a number of years to regain fertility after coming off the medication.

Over a third thought that the greatest risk of Getting Pregnant while taking the combined contraceptive pill occurred in the middle of a pack, when in fact it is at the beginning and end.

Dr Annie Evans, Women’s Health Specialist at the Bristol Sexual Health Centre, said: “It is not surprising that this survey has uncovered how widespread contraceptive myths still are in this country, given that Britain continues to have the highest unintended pregnancy rate in Europe, with as many as 50 per cent of births being unintended. It is vital that women are made aware of the facts, using the credible sources of information available to them.”
